About Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary:

Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife in Ontario. The sanctuary provides a permanent home for native species that are unable to survive in the wild due to human interference. Their mission is to keep wildlife wild by caring for these animals and releasing them back into their natural habitats whenever possible.

The sanctuary specializes in the rehabilitation of a variety of wildlife, including moose calves, which they are the only facility in Ontario licensed to care for. They also have an aquatic facility to house and care for aquatic mammals year-round. Aspen Valley is committed to providing the best possible care for the animals in their charge, ensuring they have the best chance of a successful return to the wild.

Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary offers a range of volunteer opportunities for those interested in supporting their mission. Volunteer duties may include assisting with animal care, such as feeding, cleaning enclosures, and providing enrichment activities. Volunteers may also help with maintenance tasks around the sanctuary, participate in educational programs, or assist with administrative duties.

Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary offers a unique opportunity for full-time, live-in volunteers to assist with the care and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife. During the busy spring and summer months, the sanctuary relies on up to 16 dedicated volunteers to help with the influx of animal admissions. This hands-on volunteer role allows individuals to be part of the journey as these animals progress from incubator to outdoor pre-release enclosures, ultimately being released back into the wild. While the work is demanding, with long hours and physically challenging tasks, the experience is incredibly rewarding, providing volunteers with valuable skills, lifelong memories, and the satisfaction of contributing to the sanctuary’s important conservation efforts.

Full-Time “Wildlife Animal Caregiver” Volunteer Responsibilities:

Complete animal intakes and document information
Feed animals, from infants to adults
Maintain health and feeding records of rehabilitating animals
Clean and disinfect cages, bowls, and buckets
Clean indoor and outdoor enclosures and provide enrichment
Prepare animals for transport and assist with releases
Keep volunteer common areas clean and tidy
Complete other duties as assigned
