Established in 1970, GrowNYC emerged as the Council on the Environment of New York City (CENYC) during the inaugural Earth Day festivities. Initially focused on policy matters, such as air quality and traffic congestion, CENYC has evolved alongside the dynamic landscape of our city.
Presently, GrowNYC stands as a prominent 501(3)(c) environmental nonprofit in NYC, serving over 3 million residents with vital sustainability initiatives. Our goal is to transform New York City into a truly habitable metropolis where every citizen can lead a healthier, more eco-conscious lifestyle. Through our endeavors, we aim to grant all New Yorkers equal access to fresh, locally sourced food, community green spaces, waste reduction opportunities, and environmental stewardship.
