About Kawai Purapura Retreat Center

Kawai Purapura, located in Albany North Shore, Auckland, is a sacred community established by the Prema Charitable Trust in 2009. The property, envisioned as a residential care program for natural medicine, has evolved into a residential village of over 90 residents. Embracing the Maori concept of oneness, Kawai Purapura aims to create a space where people can connect with the land, Earth, and community through conscious living. The community, guided by the principles of non-duality and Kotahitanga (oneness), seeks to offer a sanctuary for individuals to realize their true nature and foster a deep understanding of Self-realization.

Central to the ethos of Kawai Purapura is its relationship with Ngati Whatua, the Tangata Whenua of the region. The name ‘Kawai Purapura’ was gifted by Ngati Whatua elders during a dawn blessing ceremony, symbolizing the eternal oneness that exists within all beings and creation. The community honors the land, preserving its ngahere (forest) and awa (stream), embodying a commitment to sustainability and harmony with nature. Through activities such as yoga, workshops, and retreats, Kawai Purapura serves as a beacon for spiritual growth, holistic healing, and communal living, envisioning a regenerative world where love and interconnectedness form the basis for all relationships.
