About Camp Hill:

Camp Hill is a global social initiative aimed at creating inclusive communities for individuals with and without intellectual disabilities. The International Camphill Movement is composed of over 100 communities in 22 countries, focusing on the empowerment of people to grow, learn, and achieve together. This initiative fosters environments where children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities can live, learn, and work in supportive relationships steeped in mutual care and respect. As of now, there are 15 Camphill village communities in North America, reflecting a commitment to inclusion and social responsibility.

Camphill Village Minnesota, located on a sprawling 500-acre biodynamic farm, is situated ten miles north of Sauk Centre in central Minnesota. This community is structured around family-style living, accommodating residents in seven large homes. The emphasis on shared responsibilities among community members creates a nurturing and collaborative environment. Agriculture is a significant aspect of village life, involving farming and gardening, which not only contribute to the community’s self-sufficiency but also enhance the residents’ connection to nature and seasonal cycles.

The village operates various craft workshops, including weaving, woodworking, and arts, alongside a licensed processing kitchen and bakery. These facilities provide not only for the community’s needs but also generate goods for sale in the surrounding area. Community life is enriched through festivals celebrating seasonal changes, alongside cultural offerings such as plays, concerts, and lectures. Established just before World War II by Dr. Karl König in Scotland, Camphill’s foundation is rooted in the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, an influential philosopher and educator who also inspired Waldorf education. This historical background underscores Camphill’s enduring commitment to building inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.
