Mission Statement:
Happy Dogs Koh Chang aims to promote humane treatment of animals on Koh Chang through education, animal protection, feeding, free spay/neuter services, vaccinations, sheltering, and adoption. They strive to build a community where animals are valued and treated with respect to end abandonment, neglect, and cruelty.
Key Services:
Medi-Care: Providing medical care to animals in need.
Feeding: Feeding approximately 200 stray dogs daily.
Spay/Neuter: Offering free spay/neuter services to control the stray population.
Shelter: Providing shelter and adoption opportunities for stray dogs.
About the Founder:
Tina, originally from Germany, has lived in Thailand since 2004, moving to Koh Chang in 2008. She founded Happy Dogs Koh Chang in 2012 to help the island’s stray dogs and cats.
Join a team caring for up to 30 dogs at either the Safe House or the Sanctuary on Koh Chang, Thailand. Volunteers will gain invaluable experience in dog care, learning about pack behavior, treating illnesses, socializing the dogs, and simply showering them with love.
Who They’re Looking For:
Vet students, nurses, pet sitters, and anyone experienced with dog care.
Genuine dog lovers.
Volunteer Benefits:
Free accommodation with complimentary water, coffee, tea, and fruits.
Access to free shared scooters, a scooter with a sidecar, and a mountain bike to explore Koh Chang during free time.
The minimum commitment is 4 weeks, maximum stay is 3 months depending on the VISA you are on and which may be extended depending on availability and sustainability. Volunteers work in the shelters from 8am to 6pm each day, usually in 2 split shifts, each shift lasts for 5 to 6 hours and is usually shared by 2 to 4 people in one. Depending on the number of volunteers you’ll have 1 or 2 days off per week.
Age requirement: From 25 year of age only
Daily Tasks:
Walking the dogs.
Feeding the dogs twice daily.
Caring for sick dogs.
Nursing puppies.
Bathing, grooming, and de-ticking.
Cleaning cages, runs, and other areas.
Gardening.
Keeping the space neat and clean.
Socializing and playing with the dogs.
Additional Responsibilities:
Working with stray dogs (currently caring for over 200 strays daily).
Community work such as free rabies vaccinations and spay/neuter services.
Assisting locals with their pets.
