About Wangapeka Study and Retreat Centre:

The Wangapeka Study and Retreat Centre is a community-focused facility operated by the Wangapeka Educational Trust, situated in the serene foothills of the Southern Alps in New Zealand. Overlooking the picturesque Wangapeka River, the Centre is about an hour and a half’s drive southwest of Nelson. It spans a significant area that includes a meditation hall, solo retreat huts, and a main dining hall, alongside a fully equipped kitchen and an onsite vegetable garden. This tranquil setting is specifically designed to promote healing, meditation, and personal growth, attracting visitors from across the globe seeking respite and spiritual development.

Founded with a vision that centers on universal teachings of Wisdom, Compassion, and Non-clinging Awareness, the Centre resonates with a non-sectarian approach to spirituality. The community acknowledges the invaluable contributions of its seven guiding teachers, including Tarchin Hearn and Mary Jenkins, who embody the vibrant tradition of the Wangapeka’s teachings. Though not always resident, these teachers regularly host retreats at the Centre, fostering a living connection to the depth of their teachings and ensuring that the community remains vibrant and engaged. This historical commitment to shared values and teachings has built a strong, inclusive environment where individuals can explore various spiritual paths.

The Wangapeka offers a variety of retreats that encompass multiple disciplines such as meditation, yoga, artistic expression, and therapeutic practices. Activities are designed to support wellness and wellbeing, creating a space for both group gatherings and individual reflection. Many visitors note the peaceful atmosphere, attributed to the natural beauty surrounding the Centre and the dedication of those who have, over the decades, contributed selflessly to its establishment. With opportunities for personal retreats and group bookings, the Wangapeka remains a uniquely vibrant hub for spiritual exploration and community engagement, reinforcing the importance of shared experience in the journey of personal development.
