Situated on the historic family estate of George Washington in Virginia’s Northern Neck, the Organic Gardens stands as a leading provider of organic produce in the region.
For over two decades, Lawrence Latané, a descendant of the Washington lineage, alongside his wife Becky, has cultivated a diverse array of organic vegetables, flowers, fruits, and herbs at Organic Gardens. As an integral part of the Farm, which boasts a legacy of farming spanning generations, they take pride in offering their exquisite and flavorful produce through various channels, including the Fredericksburg Area CSA, the Fredericksburg Food Co-operative, and the Blenheim Buyer’s Club.
Volunteers work alongside us in the fields, greenhouse, hoop houses, barn, and occasionally the farmer’s market. In exchange for your help, you’ll get free vegetables, room and board (if you’re here overnight), and an unforgettable experience.
For many people, coming to the farm is an escape from their usual day-to-day. We have people from all over the country come work with us, and many have such a great time, they return summer after summer.
Farm work includes harvesting, weeding, sowing, irrigating, and prepping for CSA. It’s challenging but fun work, and we’re looking for responsible, easygoing people who love good food, love nature, and want to experience small-scale organic farming.
Also, there’s always work to do on infrastructure, like revamping our volunteer cabin!
There is space to pitch a tent on the property if you like camping.
Length of stay varies – we welcome volunteers for a morning or for a season!
