Aloha Animal Sanctuary is O’ahu’s first 501(c)(3) non-profit sanctuary dedicated to caring for farmed animals. Established in January 2019 by a passionate team of animal rights activists, the sanctuary was created in response to the urgent need for a safe haven for neglected and abused farmed animals. The founders recognized that many people lack personal connections with these animals, despite their ubiquitous presence in the food industry. By establishing the sanctuary, they aim to promote compassion and understanding toward these creatures, fostering a culture where individuals see animals as sentient beings deserving of love and respect.
Situated at the base of the lush Ko’olau Mountain Range in Kahalu’u, Kaneohe, the sanctuary spans two acres of agrarian land, providing a serene environment for the animals. The proximity to the ocean allows for refreshing sea breezes and the region’s ample rainfall keeps temperatures comfortable, ensuring the animals are well-cared for in a healthy environment. The sanctuary’s location not only offers a picturesque setting, but it also enhances the experience of visitors who come to interact with the animals, furthering the mission of educating the public about the dignity and value of farmed animals.
At Aloha Animal Sanctuary, the primary goal is to provide sanctuary to neglected, abused, and abandoned animals while actively promoting compassion through public engagement and education initiatives. This involves direct work with the animals, facilitating events that encourage community interaction, and providing educational outreach aimed at inspiring compassionate living. The sanctuary embodies a vision of creating a culture of respect for all species, focusing on sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. Through their efforts, Aloha Animal Sanctuary strives to influence visitors and the broader community to adopt a more compassionate lifestyle toward all animals.
